Cookie Party

No teachers allowed!

Caroline and Carter

Friends from Primrose invited us over to make cookies on Saturday. Carter enjoyed eating the items he was suppose to be using to decorate with (i.e. marshmallows, gum drops, etc.). The parents all agreed we could never be responsible for 16 three-year-olds every day! It was fun to see them all interact outside of school. Thanks Mack & Mason for the invite!

I have always believed that people have a basic desire to be good human beings. Carter challenged that tonight. I told him he could have one of the cookies he brought home from Mackenzie's party. He chose a green one and then I walked to the other room for a few minutes. I left the plate of cookies in front of him when I went to the other room. When I returned he had eaten 1.5 other cookies but not the one he had chosen. I realize he is a 3 year old kid and leaving a plate of cookies in front of him was probably not a smart decision.

What made me question my belief was that he was eating as many as he could before he ate the green one he chose to eat. I assume he planned to be eating the green one when I walked back in the room and I'd be none the wiser that he had eating other cookies off the plate.

I often think God while parenting. For instance when I want to scream "STOP, you are driving me crazy" I hear God saying hum...how many times I have I wanted to lose my patience with you, but have gently corrected you instead. I find it comical that it takes a 3 year old for God to get my attention.

Yelling and screaming really doesn't accomplish much. Carter knows he isn't suppose to yell at me and I'm not suppose to yell at him. Picture him saying, "You aren't suppose to yell at me" in the saddest little voice. (Don't think I'm all mushy on discipline, because I know I to use a pat on the bottom and the corner.) However, calm and firm is much more effective than blowing my top....most days.
