They even have Blue's Clues on VHS!
The nurses were asking Carter about his girlfriends and how mommy was going to afford to buy Christmas gifts for all of them. They also made motor sounds while Carter "drove" his bed to the OR. He was gone before Carter or I had a chance to cry!
Few hours after surgery...Chaney's blue ice cream ROCKS!

All our grandparents came to visit or send well wishes too!
I am happy to report that CW was able to eat whatever he wanted by Thanksgiving! Recovering from the tonsillectomy was certainly NO fun and much harder than mommy thought it was going to be. The surgeon told us it would be about a 4 day recovery. haha...try about 8 days before he really felt like eating and was in an agreeable mood.
The day of the surgery, Wednesday, was a honeymoon. CW was bouncing off the walls while we waited for his prescriptions. That night was he running and playing with Hope and Bryan too. By Friday, the game had totally changed. I had the doctor paged and Carter was screaming while I was trying to talk to the doctor. By Sunday he was doing better during the day but waking up screaming in the middle of the night.
One of the most frustrating things was the taste of the pain medications. They all taste horrible, even with flavoring. Carter has always been great about taking medicine, but not this stuff. We tried mixing it with ice cream, kool aid and other stuff to no avail he still refused to take it. He could have probably saved himself some pain had he taken it, but that doesn't really compute with a 3 year-olds brain. Though a few times I was able to reason with him that the pain would go away if he would take the medicine.
Finally on 9 days after surgery he slept all night for the first time in ... probably 3 1/2 years....haha. There was one night he slept all night but he had had lots of lortab that day...maybe I'll ask for a refill of that??
Now comes the hard part of re-learning to eat our vegetables instead of junk & acting like a polite young man instead of throwing a fit because we feel bad!
It had been a wonderful blessing to be able to stay home with Carter while he was recovering and not have to worry too much about working. Mark is so helpful and such a good dad too. Plus our parents are always checking on us! I'm not such how I go so lucky. Here is hoping to a tear-free drop off tomorrow after 11 days at home in our pjs! xoxo, atd
